Youth Achievement Center
Brief Description of Program/Service
The Youth Achievement Center, located at 1 Orchard Road, Suite B, Wheeling, WV is a licensed eight bed group residential facility for males age 12-17. The facility serves children with mental illness and an MR diagnosis, with moderate to severe symptomology. Applicants must have a documented IQ between 55 and 69, with consideration given for clients with borderline intellectual functioning.
Description of Services
Case Management
Case managers are all bachelor level degreed and trained in client advocacy, treatment planning, and evaluation of client progress with service curriculum.
Professional Services
Clients receive individual therapy, counseling, assessment, medication management and behavior modification services, and are linked to physicians, psychologists and special needs treatment providers. If needed, substance abuse individual and group counseling is also available.
24/7 Supportive Counseling
Staff are trained to provide emotional support, skill building and direction. Skill building includes, but is not limited to, decision-making, anger management, conflict resolution, coping skills, effective communication and socialization.
Medical Services
Clients receive medical care from a primary physician, who monitors the client’s medical needs through direct evaluation, RN services (3 on staff), and linkage to community specialists.
Staff
Direct care staff are trained in medication administration and are AMAP certified. Additionally, staff receive training in CPI, CPR, First Aid and Food Safety. They are trained in and provide supportive counseling to clients, and also receive training in child development and behavior associated with residential care for special populations. All services are provided under the direction of a licensed physician and licensed psychologist.
Referrals and Contact Information
Referrals to the program should be made through the YSS central referral office, at 304-233-9627 or 800-YSS-9818. The client’s most recent psychological evaluation and social history, along with release of information for the client’s current provider, should then be submitted. Referral packets are reviewed by the intake committee weekly.
