Welcome to Youth Services System

Our Youth = Our Treasure

Youth Services System (YSS) Inc. is a West Virginia non-profit organization that has served over 16,000 young people in the last 34 years. YSS began in 1974 to offer new and innovative options to West Virginia’s at-risk youth. We offer a range of services, all aimed at resolving crisis and building skills and social connections for youth.

These services include:

  • The only two emergency youth shelters in the northern panhandle. These offer safety, assessment, treatment, access to education, and when possible, family reunification for youth from 8-17 years old.
  • A community-based, drug and alcohol treatment service for adolescents struggling with the debilitating consequences of abuse and addiction.
  • The Northern Regional Juvenile Center, the only privately-operated juvenile facility in West Virginia is dedicated to reducing recidivism and supporting positive decision making.
  • Services to youth who are aging out of foster care at our Tuel Transitional Center where these 18-21 year olds learn the skills of independent living, continue their education, and learn work skills for gainful employment.
  • Supervised visitation for parents who need to learn and practice better parenting. Mentoring for children needing support and guidance from committed role models.
  • We Are The Future – a youth group that meets after-school and on weekends. Their focus is to use music and media to provide positive images to their peers, and learn skills to improve their life opportunities.
  • Daycare and pre-K education services.

With all of these services, our goal is to support the success of young West Virginians in building new skills and behaviors, continuing their education, and finding new tools for relating to others in their lives.

Again, Thank you for taking the time to visit this site.
