WHEELING, W.Va.  — Nov. 15, 2019 — CARF International announces Youth Services System Inc. has been accredited for a period of three years for its programs serving children and youth.

This is the first time YSS has applied for and received accreditation from the international health and human services accrediting body.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organization. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.

“Receiving this accreditation is an honor for this organization and recognition for the quality of services we provide to the community and to the state,” said Jason Melegari, YSS director of operations.

Youth Services System Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving children, youth and families, at eight facilities in Wheeling and New Martinsville. Its administrative offices are located at 87 15th St. It has been providing services in the Northern Panhandle area since 1974. YSS opened the first emergency shelters for boys and girls in the state and the first transitional living program for youth aging out of foster care. It also operates a juvenile justice facility and provides mental health, mentoring and prevention services.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. For more information about the accreditation process, please visit the CARF website at www.carf.org.
