Agency still plans to provide supplies, resources to local youth and families

WHEELING, W.Va.  —  Youth Services System Inc. (YSS) CEO John Moses today announced the cancellation of the 13th annual Celebrate Youth Festival in August at Wheeling Park as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

Thousands descend on the park in early August to enjoy free food, live music, a resource fair and the park’s amenities.

“We regret the circumstances but are erring on the side of caution. We are grateful to Wheeling Park and Oglebay Foundation for their support that, since 2008, has given 25,000 people the gift of a free day at the park,” Moses said.

YSS is making arrangements with Ohio County Schools to distribute 3,500 drawstring backpacks filled with supplies and information from local resources, which they normally would receive at the festival.

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, YSS has continued operations of its emergency youth shelters, Transitional Living Program, mental health and prevention services, as well as provided relief to people experiencing hardship and homelessness.
