Victoria F. was in the state's custody since she was a pre-teen. She became a resident at Youth Services System's Helinski Shelter for girls 17 and under and when she aged out, she lived at the Tuel Transitional Training Center group in New Martinsville, W.Va. and the McCrary Center apartments in Wheeling, W.Va., both part of the YSS Transitional Living Program. She credits the staff at McCrary for teaching her to cook, drive, budget money and live independently. This fall, Victoria and her fiance Alex moved into their own apartment in Wheeling. Alex works full time, and Victoria is taking classes to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
